The Autumn Equinox: A Time for Balance, Reflection and Letting Go

As we move through the Autumn Equinox, nature offers us a beautiful reminder of balance, change and the importance of letting go.
The September equinox marks the point in the year when the Sun crosses the equator and day and night are approximately equal in length. Here in the UK, it signals the beginning of astronomical autumn and the gradual transition towards shorter days and longer nights.
But for many people, the equinox carries a deeper, more spiritual meaning too.
What Is the Autumn Equinox Spiritual Meaning?
The balance between light and darkness makes the equinox a natural opportunity to pause and reflect.
Summer has been a season of light, activity and growth. Autumn brings a change of pace. The leaves begin to turn, nature starts to release what it no longer needs and our attention naturally begins to turn inwards.
For me, this makes the Autumn Equinox a wonderful time to ask:
What am I ready to let go of?
That could be an old thought pattern, a relationship or energetic connection, something you have been worrying about, or simply a habit that no longer feels right for you.
You don't need to have all the answers. Sometimes simply acknowledging that you're ready for something to change is enough to begin.
Finding Your Own Balance
The equinox is also about balance – something that can be surprisingly difficult to find in everyday life.
We give our energy to our families, work, responsibilities and other people, often without noticing how little time we're leaving for ourselves.
So, as the seasons change, why not create a little space for yourself?
Spend some time outside. Sit quietly with a cup of tea. Journal. Take a few deep breaths. Enjoy some Reiki or energy work. Or simply give yourself permission to do absolutely nothing for a while!
It doesn't have to be complicated.
A Time to Release and Make Space
I often talk about the importance of releasing heavy or unwanted energy. Autumn gives us such a beautiful example of this in nature.
Trees don't cling to every leaf. They let go, rest and make space for what comes next.
Perhaps we can take a little inspiration from them.
As we move into this new season, take a moment to consider what you would like to carry forward – and what you might finally be ready to leave behind.
Happy Autumn Equinox.
